Medicare Advantage Leads

Medicare regulations are changing rapidly.
It used to be that getting Medicare Advantage
Leads was fairly simple. There were a host of companies from
which you could buy Medicare leads.
If you are reading this, you know that times are different.
As far as I am concerned, it is about time that these changes have been
made.
The fact is, the system was being abused. Hundreds of newspaper articles
told of unscrupulous Medicare Insurance agents, enrolling people into
plans that were not best suited for the Medicare Beneficiary.
As a Medicare Advantage agent, I used
to laugh with my associate, that we were doing more “social work”
selling Medicare Insurance, than we were selling the plans (hardly a laughing
matter). I sat across the table from countless seniors, trying to figure
out what some Medicare Agent had done to them, and then trying to rescue
them from the mess.
On top of this, I cannot tell you how many thousands of dollars I wasted
on garbage leads that were really no leads at all. Those Telemarketing
lead companies would defend their poor lead practices by saying things
such as, “people are old, and they don’t remember that we
called them, that’s not our fault.”
How pathetic! Not only did these lead companies attempt to coerce Medicare
beneficiaries into appointments they didn’t want, but then they
would foist these so-called “leads” onto often desperate and
unsuspecting agents.
I suppose it was as much my fault as anyone’s. The truth is, back
then, I didn’t know a thing about marketing, and I was at the mercy
of those that said “a lead is a lead is a lead.”
There is an old Latin saying… “Caveat Emptor” or “Let
the Buyer Beware.”
Lucky for you, it is different now. The time has come that Medicare agents
must reform their practices. I am all for it. Not simply because Medicare
recipients were being harmed (that is enough!), but also, ethical Medicare
agents, trying to learn the business simply did not have any recourse.
You had to “work the system” or die. But that too has changed.
